2023 NATIONAL PUBLIC GARDENS WEEK
MAY 6 – 13, 2023
National Public Gardens Week was established to highlight the value of public gardens to every community and to encourage local support for these havens of beauty. The Montgomery Botanical Gardens at Oak Park has several events planned for the community to enjoy during this special week which will be May 6-13, 2023, Visitors are encouraged to take some time to tour the gardens during this week and anytime to enjoy the beauty and peace of this treasured oasis that makes such a positive contribution to the quality of life in our city. There will be no admission fee, and all are welcome.
On Saturday, May 6, 2023, at 10 am, Jennie Stowers will conduct a class on Birding followed by a guided Birding Walk through the gardens. Bring your binoculars and download the Merlin App for the most benefit. The class will take place in the Wisdom Wood Outdoor Classroom in the gardens.
On Tuesday, May 9, 2023, from 9 am until 3 pm, a Plein Aire Paint Out will take place throughout the gardens. Artists from across Alabama coordinated by the Alabama Plein Aire Artists of Alabama, will select locations in the garden to paint scenery, objects, blooms, or whatever vision they have for their creation. Visitors may quietly observe the artists as they work and create on canvas.
On Saturday, May 13, 2023, at 10 am a class on Nature Photography will be led by David Robinson, Billy Birchfield, Paul Robinson Jr. After receiving instructions and observing examples in the class, the attendees will have an opportunity to take photos in the gardens to test their skills.
