Pruning Workshop Kicks Off Initial Montgomery Botanical Gardens 2023 Educational Workshop

Bright blue skies and spring-like weather provided the perfect backdrop for a Pruning Workshop, Montgomery Botanical Gardens’ initial offering in a series of educational programs planned for the 2023 year. The workshop, held Saturday, March 4 and led by Capitol City Master Gardener Karen Weber, drew more than 45 participants.

Held in the Wisdom Wood outdoor classroom in the Gardens, the workshop offered tips on how and when to prune and the proper tools to use. Following the instruction period, participants were allowed to practice the skills taught in the workshop by pruning plants in the Gardens. Ms. Weber also invited them to join Gardens volunteers on volunteer days as they prune trees and shrubs throughout the Gardens.

Montgomery Botanical Gardens plans monthly workshops during the coming year, most of which already have been scheduled. Upcoming workshop dates include Container Gardening with Roosevelt Robinson, Alabama Cooperative Extension Service, on April 4; multiple special activities planned the Week of May 6-13 for National Public Gardens Week; Daylilies with Oliver Billingslea on June 3; Herbs with Janell Diggs on September 1; and Bulb Planting with Karen Weber on November 4. Plans for several additional workshops will be announced in the coming weeks.
